That’s right, Wall Drug. That’s all you see for miles upon miles on billboards all along the side of the road from Sioux Falls, South Dakota (and even farther) until you hit Wall, South Dakota (Yes, this is an actual city name, Wall) where you will find the Wall Drugstore.
This place advertises its ‘free ice water’ and their mid-western themed drugstores.
This place is chock full of historical western items in their frontier town, multiple photo ops and even a traveler’s chapel for all us road trippers around the world looking to take a moment to reflect on our lives.
It was a bit of a cold and rainy day when we went, so there weren’t a ton of people on this very day, but we had our frontier fun and even had a little run in with the Wall Drug Dino.
While I wouldn’t plan your whole day around this drugstore, I do find it a fun little place to stop by on your way to Mount Rushmore or on your way back home from Mount Rushmore. Plus those million signs you see on your way to and from Rapid City, you just get so curious as to what in the world is Wall Drug and why are there millions of billboards saying to come and get some ‘free ice water’.
Well I’d have to say their free ice water was nicely refreshing.
The Wall Drugstore is located at Wall, South Dakota just along Interstate 90 and believe me when I say you won’t miss it with all the billboards pointing its way.

You had me at “Wall Drug,” no doubt about it, Yvonne! I also enjoy learning where the names of towns and various landmarks come from. Looking forward to visiting Mt. Rushmore myself someday; maybe then I, too, will try some of Wall Drug’s “free ice water.”
I was hoping that title would capture people’s attention lol Mt. Rushmore is great def visit if you ever have a chance!
I was thinking you were heading somewhere else with this post…Ha! How kooky!
That’s what I was thinking when I wrote the title, I kept it simple and hoped it drew people in to read what it was about lol
haha fun post, I enjoyed reading and looking at all your photo opportunities available there, from the dinosaur, Mount Rushmore take off, but what’s with that giant ride on rabbit thing? LOL That is cute little chapel though. Well worth the stop, what with delicious looking ice cream AND ‘free ice water’! Thanks for linking up with #TheWeeklyPostcard
Thanks for reading! That giant rabbit is actually what they call a Jackalope a mixture of a jack rabbit and an antelope. So crazy, but it was pretty fun to take the picture lol
How fun! Lots of get photo opps there. Funny that they offer free iced water – glad to here it was refreshing! Thanks for sharing on #TheWeeklyPostcard.
Thanks for reading! Yeah it’s crazy that they actually advertise it quite a lot, but I have to admit their free ice water was pretty darn good lol
Geez, this place has been around forEVER. Though I have been by it a number of times on cross country trips, I don’t recall ever stopping in. Thanks for being part of #TheWeeklyPostcard.
Yeah it took my third or so trip to Rapid City before I actually went inside and checked it out. But glad I did it was a nice quick trip inside. Thanks for reading!
Wall Drug! I’ve stopped there so many times driving cross-country. It brings back memories. The ultimate kitsch! I love it!
Yes the ultimate kitsch! Thanks so much for reading!
We stopped at Wall Drug twice during the few days were were staying in Rapid City. It’s such a fun place! We were there on a hot summer day, so there were lots of people cooling off in the water in the courtyard. Looks like heat wasn’t a problem when you were there.
Yeah I definitely hear that it is a great place to cool off for the summer, so I’m sure those summer crowds can get crazy. But luckily it was a bit of cold rainy day so not so many people which was nice having almost the whole place to ourselves. lol Thanks so much reading!
Looks like a great place to visit and a fun experience! Now want to check it out as well! #TheWeeklyPostcard
Def was a great experience. If you ever get a chance, I would recommend checking it out, nice little stop to see. Thanks for reading!
What a name for a city! Looks like a really quaint place to visit.
