How did Lost with Yvonne become the blog it is today? Well to start with, it all came from a single idea that has flourished into what I now have going on.
It hasn’t been easy, let me tell you. And I’m still working hard and learning everything I can to increase my traffic, make better content, and so on and so forth when it comes to blogging.
But I did want to share with all my lovely readers some of the first steps in creating a good blog. Basically, a quick and easy jump start to your blogging career. I’ll be doing a full-blown tutorial on how to start a blog soon, but for now, if you feel the urge to dive right in and start the blog you’ve always wanted to start, then here are my tips on making that dive that you can do today!

Start with an Idea
Hopefully, you’ve already figured this part out if you’re ready to dive right into blogging. But it’s always good to make a note of what exactly you want your blog to be about. Get specific. I mean start with writing down the ideas that have been circulating in your head. And the one that really sparks your joy and you feel like you can write about for a long time, well take that idea and run with it. Run with it far and fast. It will help with figuring out your why when you have your ideas all written out.
Figure out your why
After you get your idea, it’s time to figure out your why. In short, this means, you need to figure out why you want to blog in the first place. Is it for creative release? To eventually monetize? Is it to showcase professional work? Or so you can actually help people in whatever expertise you have? Whatever it may be, figure it out first before starting your blog because it will make the blogging experience so much easier.
Write some blog posts in word/google docs, etc
That’s right, your next move from brainstorming is just Diving Right In (my third book ;)) and start writing up different blog posts. Or even just one, all you need is one blog post to get your idea out there. It can be your introduction, but the first step is to definitely write it.
Figure out your website name
Make it good and remember what your purpose of your blog is (your why). So if you want your blog to be about you then you can name it with your name, (*Cough* Lost with YVONNE *cough*). But remember you want something you know how to spell and something you want to stick with. This can be hard to think of right away, but you definitely need to think of it before your next step.
Find your Platform
There is free options for blogging. You can go straight to Blogger or wordpress.com. But for those who seriously want to be a blogger and jumpstart it from the beginning, it’s better to jump right in and pay for your platform. I use wordpress.org, and I use the hosting site called BlueHost and it’s so easy and user friendly that I recommend everyone to use these two.

Pick a Theme
Once you’re all set up and have gone through all the steps to logging to wordpress and getting your bluehost hosting site up with your domain. It’s time for some fun and pick a theme! There’s many free ones out there on wordpress, so if you’re not quite ready to invest on a paid theme, pick one of the free ones for the time being. I had a free one for many years before I finally bought my first theme just last year!
Make an About Me Page
If you’re ready to just get your awesome blog post you’ve already written out there, after you’ve picked your theme design, go ahead and just make a quick homepage with your about me to let everyone know who you are. You’ll definitely need your contact info, social media pages, etc. You can edit these later, but I say you definitely want to have this all set up for people to see right away.
Edit that blog post you want to share and then hit publish
Before you publish always, always reread and edit it! Once you’re satisfied with it and are ready to jump on the blogging grind, hit that publish button!
SHARE IT
I mean share, share, share. Have friends and family share, share it with the world. Tweet it, Facebook it to all your friends, Instagram one of the cool pictures you took with the blog post with hashtags, and voila you’ve got your first blog post sent out to the world.
Play around in WordPress
Now that you’ve shared your post and you’ve got your site up and running. Time to play around with your website and try new things. Start learning about widgets and plugins to use for your website and have fun with it! Remember it’s your site and make it how you want it!
