Food. That’s all we want to hear right? Well at least at a fair you think immediately of food. And that is exactly what I did for this fair.
Now I’ve been a San Diego Del Mar Fair girl all my life, so it’s my first time to experience this Midwestern type of fair.
The 76th annual fair went for a week long, a fairly short period of time in my opinion, but I realized I was there almost the entire week.
I was literally at the fair almost every single day since work had me going to the fair all week and then on my days off I wanted to eat and hang out with Alex and so we did.
While there is no comparison to the Del Mar Fair considering Del Mar is much larger and longer, but the Sioux Empire Fair was a lot of fun and had some yummy fried foods. Which, I think, is pretty much all you need at a fair.
Why don’t I just get right to it?
Food.
Fair food can be some of the most fattening food ever, but it is oh-so good.
The first piece of fair food I had was a gigantic corn dog. And by gigantic I mean, GIGANTIC. It is literally the size of my arm.
It was so good, but definitely felt so bad eating that whole thing… by my self.
But I poured it down with some lemonade and things were okay again. But I have to say, I got a little sick after eating that big ol’ fried bread dog.
On the day Alex came with me, he had to get Cheese Curds. Oh Cheese Curds. If I never moved to South Dakota I wouldn’t have ever known what a Cheese Curd was. The first time I heard it I was with my work buddies for my first lunch with them and they said that was a good choice to try, but I was scared by the name. But now, I can’t wait until the next time I get Cheese Curds.
Considering all the fried goodness, Alex and I opted to go onto the healthier side of things and got Gyros. I love Gyros, reminds me of Europe. While nothing can compare to the European Gyros, the fair Gyros was a thumbs up for me.
As for dessert, one day I was at the fair I had the Mini Donuts. These were absolutely delicious.
These mini donut rings reminded me of the Taco Bell Cinnabon holes. And I love those, so I obviously loved these cinnamon donuts.
And of course, per usual, I have to end it with my usual KETTLE CORN. I literally ate so much kettle corn at the fair that the owners just some how knew me. At the last day of the fair I decided to buy the large kettle corn bag and it was HUGE. It was about the size of my leg and I’m 5’ 10”.
So you can say that I definitely at that bag with Alex for a week or so.
Now that I’m really hungry to eat more fair food, there were also quite a few other things to do there. There were all those fair rides. I unfortunately did not ride any, but some did look fun to ride.
They had the usual like bumper cars, a roller coaster and the new ride called the Zipper.
The Zipper was probably the most intimidating ride ever. But it had fun music and everyone was very attracted to it.
If you’re not quite a rides person, there were also fair games that you can try and win prizes. Alex and I played a few, like ring toss. (We unfortunately did not win).
And what is a fair without an exhibit hall to cool you down from the summer heat and farm animals! Now farm animals are a normal thing here in the Midwest (I’ve never met so many cows in my life), but there were also baby pigs that were being born at the fair and I even got to see them milk a cow in the morning.
Overall, in my week at the fair, I had a good time. There were a few rides I did want to ride and a few (meaning all) foods I wanted to eat. And there were some concerts that they had at night that I was honestly too tired to go to, but it was lots of fun and I’m always okay with eating a gigantic hot dog without being judged for it.
Oh and you never know who you might see at the fair!
