I know it’s still barely the first week of 2019, but I would like to know how your goals are doing so far? Have you made goals that are sticking? Or 4 days in you feel that everything has already fallen apart?

Well, today I wanted to share with all my lovely followers a few tricks and tips that have helped me make goals and have them actually stick.

Now, I’m not perfect by any means. I have goals that I set every year and some how I don’t make them or my habits don’t stick to make the goals work. And that right there is my first piece of advice.

Don’t be so hard on yourself

The LAST thing you want to do is make yourself feel even worse about not sticking with a goal. Because NEWSFLASH, goals will always change and evolve, and it’s OKAY to not achieve a particular goal.

You aren’t going to burn into the depths of the basement for not achieving something (and if you do there is probably something more to it than not having achieved your goal). You’ll learn and move on. Or just change your goal and go from there. But don’t put yourself down when something fails. Life is hard enough to add more stress to yourself by putting yourself down more than normal.

Which brings me to my next point,

It’s time to really change your mindset and take is SERIOUSLY

Something I’m taking from 2018 to this new year is that mindset is truly everything. When I thought sad things, I would cry my eyes out until the end of time. But when I thought positive and happy thoughts, good things were happening.

The BEST things to do when it comes to setting goals, creating habits that will stick, and achieving said goals is to already be in the mindset that you’ve achieved the heck out of that goal and you’re basking in the glory.

Now don’t get too ahead of yourself and not do the work to get to the goals since you think that you already achieved the goal, but it doesn’t hurt to already have a winner’s mindset. Because when you flip the switch from ‘I think I can’ to ‘Hell yes, this is getting done’ the mind will flip you into overdrive since you didn’t hesitate to grab the bull by the horns and take what’s yours.

Write this ish down

I mean it.

I know as online people we prefer to be digital with everything, but a good old piece of paper and pen can do wonders to help you stick with your goals. It can be something as crazy cool as vision boards (people go ham with these) or something as small as writing down the exact date you want to achieve and do something on a post it note that you stick above your computer (That’s how I published my first book).

Giving yourself a visual of your actual goals somewhere other than on your blog can do wonders. Just make sure you write it and place it somewhere you’ll see almost every day because I know I’ve written things down in journals before and turns out it’s not the best place to write them in because I don’t really read back in my old journals too often.

Set realistic Dates

Going back to my story of how I wrote down September 14, 2018 on a purple sticky in black pen and taped it to the right side of my wall next to my computer. I wrote this date down two or so months prior to my book releasing on September 14, 2018. This date called out to me and so should all your goals.

There should always be a date attached to your goals. Even if it’s an ongoing goal, you will want to set deadlines for your goals. Your end goal might not have a specific date to it, but the steps you take to help achieve that goal will.

So set those dates people. And PLEASE be REALISTIC about it. Make 100K by tomorrow afternoon when you are starting at zero is not realistic. Don’t be stupid about your deadlines, but still set them. It will give you a sense of competition to achieve your goals and work harder for it.

Cultivate relationships and ASK FOR HELP

There is NOTHING wrong with asking for help. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. So if you see someone thriving and killing it and achieving things that are on your goals lists, then start up a conversation with them. Or show them some love on their social medias, videos, blogs, or whatever they have. Cultivate a relationship with them and then ask your questions that will align with your goals.

Ask people for advice, talk to them about your current goals and your current stance, and ask how they would go about their goals or where they were at that stage. There is nothing wrong with asking people for help. Now there’s a difference between having a mentor and coach where you can dive deeper into getting the help you need. But those bloggers, vloggers, podcasters or whatever that you love to listen and read about are all people that can help you. They may not answer right away and if they’re bigger maybe not at all, but you never know until you try and cultivate a relationship with them. Just be polite, respectful and ask the right questions.

Bonus tip on this. Don’t sleep on your current friends, family, or online BFFs. The amount of advice and support they can give you is quite huge. They may not be in your realm to help with specific advice in your career or personal goals, but sometimes you might just need a friend to be there for you, and those who know you the best will give you a lot more than you think they will.

Break down your main goals and be specific!

Kind of hand in hand with set a deadline, but you’ll want to have goals underneath your main goals with even more goals or to-do lists under that. Break your shit down. You can’t just write Make Money as a top goal and not have goals underneath that.

You’ll need a track that goes from ‘Make Money – earn extra 1000 each month – grow blog audience to attract people on website that runs ads or has affiliates, so you can earn the 1000 – Write weekly blog posts, share stuff on social media that all links to your website – Plan your daily tasks to engage and share and do your writing and editing batches – Make your content calendar’. Whew that was a lot of goal breakdowns, but the more specific you can get the better you can achieve and stick to your big goals.

Which brings me to a lovely freebie I have for all of you! I talk a lot about goals and writing them down and so much more that I decided to make a worksheet just for all you goal seekers.
