Vegas, the adult playground as many would say. If you’ve never been to the Sin City and you’re over 21, I would definitely recommend going there at least once in your life and letting loose. It’s a wonderful getaway, and since it’s only a 4-hour drive from So-Cal, it was an easy and fun getaway (that was when I lived in San Diego).
I got a nice suite at the Signature Hotel behind the MGM Grand. It’s the perfect place, in my opinion and we love staying there for the weekend. It’s our go-to nice hotel.
While yes, most people go to Vegas to get wasted, gamble, dance, and get crazy, there are also lots of fun things to do that don’t require a lot of drinking and a massive hangover the next day.
Queue in the High Roller.
The High Roller is located right next to the Linq Hotel behind the Las Vegas Strip. It’s not a hard Ferris wheel to miss once you get on Las Vegas Blvd, but it was tucked a bit behind hotels. If you come towards the wheel from the strip you pass by a lot of little shops including this Polaroid shop (we got a small deal and got some of Europe photos on Polaroid) and water fountains and even a bowling alley! I hear they are trying to expand the strip backwards and are expanding (could be a rumor, but that’s the gossip circulating on the strip).
This walkway towards the wheel is quite beautiful at night with the water fountain spewing beautiful colors and the wheel in the horizon glowing their different colors at night.
For all my European travelers, the High Roller is a slightly bigger version of the London Eye. It’s actually the tallest Observation Wheel at 550 feet high, according to their website.
So if you’ve gone in the London Eye, then you know you basically go into a little ball cabin and enjoy the views surrounding you.
We’ve seen this Ferris wheels the past few times Alex and I went to Vegas and have wanted to go on it every time. We were lucky and scored an awesome group-on (Thank you Groupon gods) and we got to book 2 flex tickets (any ride time) and it included for us over 21 year old folks, an open bar option at certain times.
So yes, this particular activity did involve some drinking, but it’s Vegas they of course have to have that option. But don’t worry if you want to bring kids or don’t feel like being in a room full of shouting and woo-ing old ladies (my cabin did have that lady) there are specific cabins that do not have the bar in the cabin. So it is a Ferris wheel for all ages!
The open bar option was a 30 minute ride around the whole wheel, so one round of that wheel takes 30 minutes and it lets you see the whole view of the back of the strip and the strip itself. We went at night time and it was so pretty with all the wonderful lights everywhere.
Our cabin was a fun bunch with quite a bit of old drunk people. It wasn’t too crowded for a 6pm ride on a Saturday, but they do pack you in with about 20 or more people. We met a cool couple who were telling us about a really fun diner on Fremont Street called Heart attack Café, which I will have to check out the next time we go.
Overall the 30 minute ride consisted of quite of bit of margarita drinks (STRONG, I must add) friendly people from all over the country and some close by in California, and beautiful views of Las Vegas.
It was quite a lovely experience and the open bar option is perfect for those who want to keep the drinks going. But if you also want to feel like you’re on the London eye and just enjoy the beautiful views of Las Vegas in a 360 view cabin, then I would definitely recommend buying a ticket to get on the High Roller.
Prices can range from $24.95 – 34.95 depending on the day and time. There are certain times for the open bar happy hour. You can refer to their website for further info.
Do you travelers like these Observation wheels?
Cheers!

We were just there, and I couldn’t persuade my wife. After doing the one in Seattle, she has no interest. Maybe, next trip? Thanks for sharing your experience.
That looks like exactly what I expect Las Vegas to be down to the drunken pictures! Fun stuff but I’d never make it out alive on that High Roller.
I just love Vegas – and the fact they have to do every attraction bigger, better and higher than everyone else. I have been on the London Eye – but that wouldn’t stop me going on the High Roller! Thank you for sharing 🙂
Yvonne, Vegas! What’s not to love. Next time I go, I’m riding that Ferris Wheel!
Ah this looks like so much fun! Vegas is so high up on my list of places to go, I hope I get to go sometime soon x
Looks like fun! I love the photo of Vegas from high up!
