I have been obsessively making lots of root beer floats lately. And Alex and I have been quite enjoying it.
As a bonus to my last wine tasting post, since we decided to bow down from all the wine drinking our driver took us Old Town Temecula, California to see the town.
Even though I used to live so close to Old Town Temecula, I surprisingly have not been there. As an extra part of our wine tasting tour, our awesome chauffeur took us to Old Town Root Beer Company to do some root beer tasting.
The store literally had hundreds of different kinds of root beer. It was pretty amazing if I must say so myself.
It had all of your originals and some quite odd pop bottles.
As a group we decided to chip in and just buy a few root beers and have our own root beer taste testing.
We grabbed our four root beer choices, most recommendations by the cool employees there. We then got some paper cups and took a seat at the outside picnic tables.
Our four choices were as follows:
Dr. Browns – It tasted like a really good root beer.
Old Town Root Beer Company – It was their home Root beer that they use for their root beer floats that they sell inside. I found it good, but not the best.
Dang! Butterscotch Root Beer – I found this to be quite tasty. It had that sweet flavor to it, what I think Butter beer from Hogsmeade would taste like ( I still need to go to Orlando to try this out by the way!)
Hank’s Gourmet Root Beer – Looked like a beer bottle, kind of tasted like beer. Had a small taste of it and I was definitely not a fan.
I personally found Dang! to be the best root beer we tasted followed by Dr. Browns. As you can see, our wine tasting trip ended with some root beer tasting fun.
And as our day ended, we did realize that the BBQ place across the street made us the hungriest bachelorette party ever.
Cheers xo

I don’t really know what root beer is. It isn’t something you see much of in Australia. We are headed to the US later this year so maybe I will try some.
I never knew that root beer is not a universal thing. That’s cool to know! You definitely should and make sure to try a root beer float while you’re at it, they add ice cream to the root beer and it’s the best! 🙂
Haha this is so cool! Who doesn’t love a root beer float? This one tasting I can take my son to! 😛
I know right? I love root beer floats! It definitely is a great thing to do with the whole family! : )
I miss root beer!! When I get back to the states I’m going to be drinking a ton! Love the root beer tasting idea 🙂
Yes, root beer is something you just need once in a while. I love it! : )
I’ve never been a huge fan actually (LOL Christine’s comment below!) but that’s only because I didn’t grow up in the States, I think. Your photos are so colorful and fun, looks like you had a blast!
lol yeah it can be an acquired taste sometimes. And thank you! I did have a blast!
This is the first time I have ever heard (read) of rootbeer tasting and it seems like a cool idea! I think it’s great for those who don’t like alcohol.
Yeah, I think it’s a great idea for people who have families to do this or don’t like alcohol. It was fun and tasted great!
This just made me crave a nice cold root beer so bad! Root beer floats were one of my favorite things as a kid and this just brought me back! I don’t even think they have root beer here in Spain 🙁 My parents actually did a cross country trip not too long ago and brought back a bunch of different “pops” for me to try. Some were so good! and well some were definitely interesting … 😀
I know root beer floats always reminds me of my childhood and it’s so good! I’ve been hearing that it’s mostly a united states thing, so at least I know that when I travel around to have some root beer before I leave the US lol
That sounds like so much fun! My husband and I should definitely go there when we next visit my family back in California.
Yes! It was tons of fun and there’s still quite a bit of stuff to do in the down town area too! You guys should definitely go there next time!
This root beer tasting idea is totally my jam. Ice cold root beer is my favorite coke (Texan speak – lol) in the summer… and nothing beats it!! We have a store similar to this down in this new arts district, so I think I need to go down there and do some taste testing myself!!
it’s amazing how many different ways to say soda, coke, pop lol But yes you should definitely do that! It was lots of fun to try different root beers, I figured there was only one taste, but who knew! And it really is great for this upcoming summer time!
This is so fun. I actually dislike root beer but would totally love to do this with other kinds of sodas- I spy a sweet corn soda on the shelf!
I like to drink soft drinks not highly alcohol. Because these are harmful for our health. So we need to be so care about our health so more. It help us to be long live.
