It’s amazing the many things that can change in a year, to a month, to a week, to even a day. I mean my book is going to officially be out in 5 DAYS! And I have officially been living in Arizona for 2 years this month!
This to me is so crazy.
Did I ever think that I was going to end up in Arizona? No. I did not think that whatsoever. It was the same with me never ever thinking I’d have lived in South Dakota, but I did that too.
On my Day 9 of my 14-day book launch, I wanted to reflect a little bit of how these past two years have been living in Arizona. I was originally going to do a vlog about this, but then I didn’t, so here we are. So buckle up buttercup, come take a short journey with me through living in the hottest state in the United States.
It all started with a great big move from San Diego to South Dakota if you want to read a bit about this journey you can check out the post here. And living in the midwest was great, don’t get me wrong, but it also wasn’t for me.
I’d lived in California my entire life, for over 20 years at that point and sometimes you just can’t take the So-cal out of a girl. Which is how we landed in Arizona. It was a new place, on the west coast and much cheaper to live.
While I would still choose Southern California as my home, Arizona has found a place in my heart. We visited the Grand Canyon and I fell in love with it. It was a breathtaking moment that I would relive over and over again if I could.
The only con of living in this place is the heat. But to me, it’s honestly bearable. Considering most of my work is done online and on the computer I can easily stay indoors all day. It may not be the most healthy thing to do, but I love staying in and reading a book or writing a blog post or book. It’s just something I love to do.
So the heat reaching over 120 degrees wasn’t something that bothered me too much. Sometimes. That doesn’t mean I won’t complain about this heat because I just don’t like getting in my car to get a quick bite to eat and feel like I’m in an oven until my ac kicks in.
And as much as I love being inside, I also still love the outdoors and taking hikes. And being outside in the heat for more than 30 minutes is basically asking to sit in hell for 30 minutes. So you can easily go stir crazy being inside all day.
Overall I have loved being here. They have wonderful food options, the winters are the best here considering it doesn’t snow and I don’t have to worry about sliding on black ice to and from work. And we are close enough to California and my family that we don’t have to pay so much just to visit family and friends.
Are we going to stay in Arizona forever? Probably not. As much as I want a forever home, I just don’t think the state of Arizona is quite it. But we are planning on staying and enjoying more of what Arizona has to offer us here as much as we can.
I have lists of places to still visit while I still live here and I hope to share it all with you soon. For now, I’m looking to see where Alex and I’s next destination will be. Who knows where we’ll be going to next, but for now you might hear me complain a bit here and there saying how much I’m sick of this 100 degree weather on my podcast every so often.
But Arizona has taken a part of my heart, just as much as South Dakota, New Jersey (oh yeah I lived here too at one point in my life) and California has my heart. Maybe I’m not someone who is meant to give my full heart to a single place. So we’ll see where I’m off to next or what I’ll be doing.
For now, I give Arizona my full attention and hope you come along my journey through seeing what more Arizona has to offer for me. I am pledging to visit more places throughout Phoenix and beyond, while I still live here. I am pledging to really explore this state more and shed more light than it just being seen as the hottest state to live in with scorpions everywhere.
Cheers to living here for 2 years and cheers to another year or two or who knows how much longer. Cheers to exploring this place until my heart feels content.
XOXO
Check back tomorrow for my Day 10 where I will be giving all my lovely Lost with Yvonne Blog Readers a free chapter to read of my book The Princess Center!
